Roasted Sip began in 2016 in Brunei, with a simple intention: to source, roast and serve coffee that took provenance and craft seriously. We started small — a single café, a hand-cranked sample roaster, a stack of green coffee from a few trusted importers — and grew slowly, one café at a time.

Part of the advantage of growing up in a small country is the lack of external influence. It let us forge an honest, novel approach to coffee that reflected the way we wanted to drink it. Ten years on, that's still the foundation of how we work.

A simple approach

Each coffee we roast is the result of a set of intentional decisions, made slowly. We explore the influence of each — varietal, process, altitude, roast — on the journey from a well-nourished tree to a delicious, transparent cup.

At our end of the chain, we roast to showcase and unveil the innate quality and complexity of the green coffee we've chosen. We make our roasting decisions at the cupping table, deciding on a single profile that best showcases the unique fingerprint of each lot — never with "espresso" or "filter" in mind.

Some have perceived this as a compromise, a "halfway house." We've never seen it that way. It removes the noise, and leads the conversation back to origin.

Seeking inspiration

There is a constant need to travel for coffee — both to origin countries and to cities around the world — seeking inspiration both inside and outside the industry. We work with a small set of trusted importing partners, and visit origin where we can, to build relationships with skilled producers who pour their work into each plant and ripening cherry.

Their expertise is humbling. It only pushes us further to present their work as carefully as we can.

The act of brewing

We allow ample resting time for our coffees to degas. We use clean, fresh water — of an ideal mineral content — to present the coffee in its best light. Once roast profile, water and coffee age are right, the act of brewing becomes simple. A wide variance in brewing parameters can still produce delicious, transparent cups.

We value clean, bright cups, with clear flavour notes that reflect their place of origin. Through these coffees, we hope to take you with us — through the seasons of coffee, and the intentional decisions that shape each cup.

Through all of this, we remain curious. About every stage of the coffee process, about other sensory experiences, and about the future direction of the industry we work in.
